Gym Instruction


This course will enable learners to work as a qualified Gym Instructor in a commercial gym facility. This qualification provides the knowledge and skills to enable learners to plan, deliver and evaluate safe and effective sessions.

The course is a mixture of home study, classroom theory and practical sessions which will develop your skills and knowledge, the course can be completed within approximately 2 months depending on how commited you are to completing your home study. Generally practicals take place on weekends to make it possible for all individuals who wish to undertake this course to do so whilst not interfering with a working life.

Whilst on the course you will have to work with a real client to produce a basic induction programme. This qualification will allow yourself once qualified, to work for any creditable fitness establishment.

It is delivered with 1 to 4 students so the learners experience whilst at our centre is focused on quality delivery enabling the learner to develop to their full potential.

Cost - £550

All materials, including manuals will be supplied by the centre.

All learners will require access to power-point 97-2003 as a minimum for home learning.

Entry Requirements

This qualification is open to all
The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary
There is also an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2
Some experience of gym-based exercises, including free weights, is highly recommended.

The learner must achieve all six mandatory units.

  1. Unit 1 - Anatomy and physiology for exercise (H/600/9013)
    Unit 2 - Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity (M/600/9015)
    Unit 3 - Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment (T/600/9016)
    Unit 4 - Principles of exercise, fitness and health (A/600/9017)
    Unit 5 - Planning gym-based exercise (F/600/9018)
    Unit 6 - Instructing gym-based exercise (A/600/9020)
